Addressing Getting Laid Off With The Team

Yes, you heard that right. Our teams are expecting to get laid off at any moment and this is what our CEO and Founder, Nikki Adamson, has to say about it:

“Our teams are expecting to get laid off. Even if it’s not a conscious thought - what I learned from addressing this topic with my team recently was that they’d been holding anxiety around this, even if it had just been subconsciously.

“We recently discussed our organization’s approach to uncertain economic times and are sharing it here for transparency. I felt really strongly about sharing my thinking and the steps we’ll be taking between the feeling of “yikes” that we noticed a few months ago when we started curbing spending, and a potential future date where layoffs would be needed, and wanted to share here too.

Despite the news, we took our time to acknowledge that we are proud of the work we’ve done to date - but are even more excited about the future, and are committed to extending our runway far into the future so we’ll get to continue serving the startup talent ecosystem.”

As a startup, how are you dealing with the current events of layoffs? How are you communicating how you’re feeling to your employees? Do you bring them into the thoughts of uncertainty you sometimes have or do you prefer to shoulder it alone?
